Hello W+K,

My name is Elliott Romano. I’m a graphic designer and programmer, and I occasionally teach computational design at RISD.

Much of my work in interactive design is concerned with the craft of software and the computational application of graphic design and visual language. Through my practice, I have developed a deep interest in the historical overlap between computer systems, musical instruments, artistic performance, and graphic form.

Over the past three years, I’ve been researching and building generative design tools for nondeterministic brand experiences and new ways of creating designed images. My broader practice spans commercial work, independent experimentation, research, and teaching. These different parts of my practice converge around an interest in creating new design tools.

I’m applying to the Kennedys because I want to work on ambitious and difficult projects alongside designers, writers, strategists, and other creative people to develop novel ways of storytelling across mediums and contexts. I have long been fascinated by W+K’s ability to create work that enters culture in meaningful ways, and I want to be part of the process behind it. At a moment when the tools and possibilities of design are constantly in flux, I want to learn from people who have consistently helped shape what comes next.

I would be grateful for the opportunity to develop my practice alongside and contribute to this year’s Kennedys cohort.
